Maths Trail

Third and Fourth Class had great fun doing Maths Trails this week. We were busy estimating, measuring, drawing, labeling, counting and timing in the beautiful May sunshine.
Did you know there are over 30 windows in our school?
Have you ever counted all the faces painted on our wall?
We noted all the 2D and 3D shapes around our schoolyard and school building, there are lots!
There are many examples of straight, curved, vertical, horizontal and parallel lines to be seen.
Most of us could bounce a basketball at least 80 times in one minute. However, very few of us could score 10 baskets in the same time!
Have a look at some photos of our class enjoying our Maths class today.

3-D Shapes

We've been learning all about 3-D shapes and their properties in 4th Class.
Today we used card to construct our own 3-D shapes. First we drew nets of cubes, cuboids, square pyramids, cylinders and triangular prisms. Then we cut out our nets and made 3-D shapes. We had to be very precise, using our rulers to measure each line to ensure each face was the exact length.

Here are a few examples.

Easter Rising 1916

Over the past few weeks we have been learning about the 1916 Rising. Each class grouping did a display on a particular topic pertaining to Easter 1916. This display was on view to parents and the wider community on Proclamation Day, March 15 1916.

As part of our 1916 study we worked in small groups, reading a variety of newspaper supplements and reported back to the whole class.

There were interesting facts, detailed maps and lots of old photographs, which helped us create a more vivid picture of life in Ireland at that time.

Ancient Egypt

We've been learning all about life in Ancient Egypt in History.
We worked in groups and did a project on it. We looked at Mummification, Pharaohs, Pyramids, Tutankhamun, Life in Ancient Egypt and Interesting Facts about Ancient Egypt.

We even learned a rap all about Ancient Egypt!
Here are some pictures of us busy at work in our groups.

Our New Proclamation

For the past few weeks we've been working on our new proclamations, our vision for Ireland going forward. We worked together in groups and came up with lots of ideas. In our new proclamations we discussed how we can make changes for a better Ireland for everyone. After we completed our proclamations we shared our vision with the rest of the class. We are all really looking forward to Proclamation Day on March 15 when we will share our new school proclamation with our community.
